What is ASSET?

The dictionary defines the word "asset" in several ways. It can mean something of value, a benefit or an advantage. It also means something useful in overcoming an obstacle.
We named our project "ASSET" because it is all of those things to people with disabilities who are working hard for a good future. The letters in the name stand for the full name of the project, "Active Service Solutions for Economic Transition," but most of the time we just call it "ASSET." ...more
How does ASSET help?
People with disabilities have dreams and goals just like everybody else, but they often have more challenges to overcome. Many people with disabilities have very low incomes.
It's hard to be independent and self-sufficient when you don't have enough money to pay for basic necessities--things like groceries, clothing, a place to live, or disability-related equipment or technology. People with disabilities often find themselves stuck in a cycle of poverty and dependence.
ASSET aims to help people with disabilities break out of that cycle by learning new skills in three important areas: money management, housing and assistive technology. The training is flexible; it's provided to groups or one-on-one, depending on each person's specific needs.
Is ASSET right for me?
